Hello 2018!

A very happy New Year readers!  I can’t believe we’re already a month into 2018.  I’m a little slow kicking off this year but after the rollercoaster last year, I decided not to jump straight back into business.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen my word for 2018 is ‘Balance’ – one thing that started to spiral last year and I could never quite get back on track.

I don’t normally want to write about the challenges/hardships I’ve encountered over the years but I felt my first blog of 2018, should be a reflection and an insight into my journey so far as a mother and a stationery designer.

No one said it would be easy.  Being first time parents and raising a child with my support network being on the other side of the world is really (and I mean really) tough. I actually envy mums who have that network around them and want to tell them how lucky they are.  To throw into the mix of motherhood, I returned to part time work just before Noah's 1st birthday (sometimes needs must) and still persued my stationery business.

I felt like I knew exhaustion, until we had Noah - And then I really knew what exhaustion was! They say mums are supposed to rest as much as they can and sleep when their baby is sleeping.  In the real world when you’re on your own, this just doesn’t happen. Working extremely late nights (not out of choice), to catch up and create amazing stationery, running on empty and often playing single mum when Vick was away with work hit me hard, mentally and physically.  I cover it very well to the outside world but only Vick and I know how broken I really was.

Despite the challenges i've faced, love, passion and determination have kept me going.  I love what I do and when you find something you love, you work at it.  Vick has been my ever supportive husband and without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Had I have given up, I also wouldn’t have had the amazing opportunities to work with my brides and other creatives.  It definitely has been a learning curve but I feel I have come out stronger and this year my goal is to work on getting balance back in my life - To create some amazing stationery for you all but more importantly to spend time with my two favourite boys and make the most of the year ahead.

The best is yet to come!
